Observing Independence Day 2021

Independence Day 2021 was observed by the students and the teachers of SOS Hermann Gmeiner
College Dhaka with due solemnity.
On 26 March 2021 a virtual programme was arranged by SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka. The
programme started at 11:00 a.m. with the recitation from the Holy Quran by a student of class VIII. Then
three students and two teachers of the college delivered speeches about the significance of the historic
day. Finally, the Principal of the college delivered an important speech. She told the students about the
supreme sacrifice of the great martyrs who laid down their lives for the sake of the freedom of the
country. She also told the students about the importance of freedom and the necessity of its
preservation. The discussion part ended at 12: 00 p.m. and then followed a short but mesmerizing
virtual cultural programme where there were patriotic songs, recitation of patriotic poems and a group
dance. The whole programme ended at 12: 45 p.m. During evening time the whole campus was
illuminated with colourful lights.
It is mentionable that on 25 March 2021 there was a blackout in the college campus at 9: 00 pm and the
campus was illuminated with candles in remembrance of ‘the darkest night in Bangladeshi history. On
both occasions, the college campus was decorated with posters and banners related to their respective
days.
