Introduction: SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka is an educational project of SOS Children’s Village International in Bangladesh. It was established on the 19th of January 1986. Over the years the college has earned the reputation of being one of the best educational institutions in the country in terms of its academic and extra-curricular achievements.

 Result:

The result of HSC Examination-2022 was published on 08 February 2023. Total 110 Students of SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka appeared in the exam. All students passed the exam successfully. Among them 107 students got GPA-5.

The result of SSC Examination 2022 was published on 28 November 2022. Total 121 Students (from Science Group-80, Business Studies Group-41) of SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka appeared in the exam. 119 students passed the exam successfully. Among them 71 students from Science Group and 17 students from Business Studies Group got GPA-5.

International, National and Special Days:

International Mother Language Day: An online programme was held by the students and the teachers of SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka with due solemnity on 21 February 2022 to observe International Mother Language Day. The day started with the offering flowers by some students and the teachers of the college on the Shaheed Minar in the college compound. Then at 10:00 a.m. the virtual programme began and the whole programme ended at 11:00 a.m.

Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation: SOS Hermann  Gmeiner  College  Dhaka  celebrated  “102nd Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day 2022” in a befitting manner in ‘Helmut Kutin Auditorium’ of the college on 17 March 2022 at 9:00 a. m. The programme started at 9:30 a.m. The whole programme ended at 11:30 a.m.

Independence Day 2022: The 51st Independence Day of Bangladesh was observed by the students and the teachers of SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka with due solemnity in ‘Helmut Kutin’ auditorium. The programme started at 09:30 a.m. There were ‘Art’ and ‘Essay Writing’ competitions which were arranged on the occasions of ‘the Independence Day’ and ‘the Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day’. It is mentionable that “Sheikh Rasel Wall Magazine” was unveiled in the beginning of the programme by the Principal of the college on the occasion of the Independence Day. During the evening time the whole college campus was illuminated with red and green lights. It is also mentionable that on both the occasions of 25 March and 26 March, the college campus was decorated with posters and banners related to the respective days.

Celebration of the International SOS Children’s Village Day 2022: A grand celebration programme was held by the students, the teachers and all other staff of SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka to observe the International SOS Children’s Village Day 2022 on the occasion of the 103rd birth anniversary of Dr. Hermann Gmeiner, the founding father of SOS Children’s Village. On this occasion, a week-long programme from 15 June to 23 June 2022 was held in the college with grandeur. The final programme was held on 23 June 2022. The Principal of the college presided over the programme. The Chief Guest of the programme was Dr. Md. Enamul Haque, National Director of SOS Children’s Village International in Bangladesh and Chairman of the College Governing Body.

National Mourning Day: To observe the National Mourning Day and 47th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a programme was held in a befitting manner by the students and the teachers of SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka. The programme started at 09:30

a.  m. and ended at 10.15 a. m. It can be mentioned that students of the college composed a wall magazine and boarded it on the “Sheikh Russel Deyalika Corner” of the college. Banners on the National Morning Day were put up on the walls of the college.

Celebration of the Victory Day 2022: The 52nd anniversary of the Victory Day of Bangladesh was observed by the students and the teachers of SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka with great enthusiasm and due solemnity in Helmut Kutin auditorium of the college. The programme started at 11:45 a.m. and ended at 1:00 p.m. It can be mentioned here that on the occasion of the Martyred Intellectuals Day 2022, students of the college composed a wall magazine and boarded it on the “Sheikh Russel Deyalika Corner” of the college on 14 December 2022. On this occasion, a banner on the Martyred Intellectuals was also put up on the frontal wall of the college. 

Science Festival:

A three-day long science festival was held at SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka from 19 May to 21 May 2022. Students of class XI organized the programme where all the members of College Debating club, Language club, Cultural club, Art club and Science club worked together.The chief guest of the festival was the Principal of the college. Sadman Sadik, an Online Teacher, Educator, a Digital Marketer, a Content Creator and CEO of 10 Minutes School from Bangladesh, was the special guest of the programme. 

National Education Week 2022:

Adibuzzaman, a student of class six of this college, attended the programme of the National Education Week 2022 and took part in “the Poem Recitation Competition” and “the Kiraat Competition.” He secured the first position in both the competitions in Thana level. He got awards on 14 August 2022 from Thana Secondary Education Office Kafrul, Dhaka. 

Workshop on Development on Career Proficiency and Behaviour:

The workshop on Development on Career Proficiency and Behaviour was held in SOS Children’s Village Dhaka from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p. m. on 4 July 2022. The resource persons of the programme were Mr.  M. A.   Rashid, a trainer, Human Development, the former Director, the Ministry of Employment and Labour, Republic of Bangladesh. All the Maintenance staff of SOS Children’s Village and Youth Village, Dhaka, and also the Maintenance staff of the college took part in the programme. 

Girls Guide and Red Crescent:

Girls Guide Activities Orientation Programme: According to the Government direction, a day-long Girls Guide Activities Orientation programme was held on 17 August 2022 to spread the girls guiding activities. The Principal of the college and one games teacher of the college took part in the programme. 

A Training Course on Girls Guide Guider: Following the direction of the Government, two teachers of the college attended the training course regarding Girls Guide Guider that was held from 4 September to 8 September 2022.

Youth Red Crescent: A team consisting of three members came to college from National Headquarters Red Crescent Youth, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society on 28 September 2022 to form a school team consisting of 53 members for Youth Red Crescent. The team of National Headquarters Red Crescent Youth, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society informed the school team that they would be trained on 7 topics and there would be regular activities to develop the team. 

Child Safeguarding:

Workshop regarding Child Safeguarding Reporting and Responding: A three day-long workshop regarding Child Safeguarding Reporting and Responding was held from 22 August to 24 August 2022 in SOS National Training Centre, Dhaka. Two teachers of the college attended the workshop.

Discussion on Child Safeguarding and Responding: A discussion on Child Safeguarding and Responding was held in Helmut Kutin auditorium of the college on 14 November 2022. All the teachers of the college took part in the discussion. The Focal Person of the meeting was Mst. Kaniz Fatema, a senior teacher of the college. The Vice Principal of the college was the convener of the meeting. 

Special Coaching Classes for the students under BPL:

Special coaching classes for the students under BPL started from 4 September 2022 in the college campus. The special classes were arranged for the students of class VIII on each Sunday, Monday and Thursday in a week on English, Mathematics and Science. 38 students were attending these special coaching classes. 

Summer Sports Events 2022:

The Physical teachers of the college attended a meeting arranged by Mirpur Thana Inter School Sports Committee on 5 September 2022 to make inter school sports competition successful. A team consisting of the students from class VIII to class X of the college was formed to take part in an inter school sports competition. The team played against Adorsho High School in the 1st part of the game on 8 September 2022 and against Mirpur Government High School in the 2nd part of the game on 10 September 2022 and winning in both the matches, they were selected to play in the semi-final match. Next, they played the match with the students of Dhaka Shikkha Board Laboratory Model School and College but lost the match. The girls’ football team of the college secured the position of runners-up. 

Seminar on Mental Health Awareness:

A seminar on Mental Health Awareness was held in the Helmut Kutin Auditorium of SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka at 11 a.m. on 22 September 2022. The programme was conducted by Asst. Professor Dr. Sifat-E- Sayed, Department of Psychiatry, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka. Students from class VIII to class X of the college attended the seminar. The whole programme ended at 1:00 p.m. 

Winning Award in Hand Work Competition:

Namirah Tajbid Aleftina, a student of class III of the college, took part in Hand Work Competition on the occasion of the festival in Residential Model College on 24 September 2022 and secured the first position. 

Covid-19 Vaccine:

414 students aged from 5 years to 11 years of this college were given 1 st dose vaccine of COVID-19 on 30 October 2022. Among them the number of boys was 212 and that of girls was 202.
